The 3- way catalysts are used for waste gas purification of λ=1 – engines. This helps to reduce Carbon Monoxide (CO), Formaldehyde (HCHO) and Nitrogen oxide (NOx), but only if the engine runs within the λ –window i.g. in a stoichiometric relation with an oxygen content of 0% in the exhaust gas.
Following basic reactions take place:
- 2 CO + O2 → 2 CO2
- HCHO + O2 → CO2 + H2O
- 2 NO → N2 + O2
- 2 NO2 → N2 + 2O2
We offer several types of housings. In principle, the housings differ depending on the installation location. The catalyst can either be installed into an exhaust pipe or into the head of a silencer or a heat exchanger. The advantage of the integrated installation is lower costs.
Generally, catalysts have a proportionally long service life and therefore do not have to be especially accessible. Since the 3-way catalysts have to achieve reduction rates of up to 95%, insertion racks cannot be installed. Because of the higher reduction rate, 3-way catalysts have to be dimensioned larger. With the aid of the latest 3D-CAD.technology we can always find solutions for very complicated installation conditions.
We strictly abide to the TA-Luft-values, but if necessary, can also deliver catalysts designed to meet the stricter maximum values of i.e. Switzerland.
