3-Way-Catalysts

3-Way-Catalysts are used only with Lamda-1 engines. Due to the missing oxygen in the exhaust gas a reduction of CO,HC and NOx can take place.

A 3-Way-Catalyst can reduce pollutants in the exhaust gas by more then 90%.

It helps unburned Hydrocarbon (HC) and Carbon monoxides (CO) reduce to Water (H2O) and Carbon dioxide (CO2), as well as to reduce Nitrogen oxides (NOx) to Nitrogen (N2).

In order to achieve an optimum reduction of all three pollutants CO, HC and NOx the engine must operate within a narrow band, the so- called Lambda-window.

Oxygen in the exhaust gas can be measured with a lambda-probe.
