Soot Filters

Modern diesel engines produce less and less particles, at least it seems so. Latest studies however showed that 70 - 80% the mass of floating dust consists of particles smaller than 0,1 micron.

This micro dust did not decrease. Measurments have proven that they even increased. Here is the major problem.
The smaller the diameter the larger the surface of the particles, and this is the main danger for our lungs as per inhalation biologists.

In order to reduce the loading for our environment, just lately more and more diesel engines are equipped with filter systems.
